Our History

 

1932

Netta Ford opens an experimental nursery school in the carriage house of the Visiting Nurse Association headquarters at 218 East Market Street.

 

1934

The nursery school receives federal support from the Works Progress Administration to help combat the effects of the Great Depression.

 

1942

The Lanham Act provides federal funding to operate nursery schools in response to women joining the workforce to support the war effort.

 

1946

York Nursery School receives support from the York Welfare Fund (the precursor to the United Way of York County).

 

1947

The York Nursery School Association is established to continue operations after the conclusion of WWII.

 

1950

York Nursery School moves to 628 East Market Street.

 

1982

York Day Nursery and Kindergarten becomes first childcare center in York to accept infants.

 

1996

York Day Nursery moves to 450 East Philadelphia Street.

 

2012

A Capital Campaign adds a gym, storage area, and outdoor nature center.

 

2021

The first York Day Nursery satellite location opens at York County School of Technology.

 

2022

York Day Nursery becomes York Day Early Learning.
